“World Sport” found out that veteran basketball player Davit Tortladze is appointed as a head coach of “Olimpi” which won silver medal at the Georgian XXII basketball championship and Super Cup. His assistant will be veteran basketball player Giorgi Markhvashvili. Another veteran basketball player Levan Gegeshidze will be a president of the club.

Davit Tortladze was born in Tbilisi in 1970. He has played for “Dinamo” Tbilisi and youth team.

He has been a member of the Georgian national team since 1994 till 2001.

Tortladze has played for almost all clubs of Georgia (“Cactus”, “Dinamo”, “Basko”…). He finished career at the age of 35. It is worth mentioning that he became a top scorer of the national championship in the last year of his career. He proved once again that he could play but decided to go.

“Tortla” (nickname of Tortladze) who is in love with basketball decided to stay in this sport and coached children in “Dinamo” Tbilisi. He has coached children for 7 years. Tortladze was a head coach of “Dinamo” too. He was a coach assistant of “Army”.

Giorgi Markhvashvili, assistant of “Tortla”, was a talented basketball player too. He has played for the national team. He left active sport at the age of 28…

Tortladze and Gegeshidze formed “Basketball Players Association” with veteran basketball players Guram Minashvili, Misha Akhvlediani and Zura Grdzelidze. He will participate in presidential elections of Georgian Basketball Federation this October.
